"Czechs Mix"

Description

One of today’s great violinists, Midori, joins your Austin Symphony Orchestra for one of the great violin concertos, Sibelius’ Violin Concerto in D Minor, the only concerto he ever wrote. Packed with virtuosic passages and passionate themes, this concerto will keep you on the edge of your seat! Mixed with two Czech works, Suk’s creative Scherzo fantastique opens the program, and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, closes it. First premiered under Smetana and influenced by Wagner’s sound, Dvořák’s Third Symphony is his only one in three movements. It begins with an expansive melody and ends with a spirited dancelike rondo; how else would you want to end the 110th season?!

PROGRAM:

JOSEF SUK: Scherzo fantastique, Op. 25
JEAN SIBELIUS: Violin Concerto in d minor, Op. 47
ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat Major, B. 34

Still want more? We also have a wonderful pre-concert talk given by Bob Buckalew at 7:10 pm. Take a photo in front of our photo wall. Feeling a little peckish? Our friends at Spectrum Catering will be offering meal options before the performance and during intermission. Come have a "Musical Connection” with your Austin Symphony Orchestra!
