Your Austin Symphony Orchestra will be brining you a concert that is other-worldy. This concert will feature Gustav Holst's The Planets. "The Planets is a seven-movement orchestral suite by the English composer Gustav Holst, written between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system and its corresponding astrological character as defined by Holst. The concept of the work is astrological rather than astronomical (which is why Earth is not included, although Sun and Moon are also not included while including the non-traditional Uranus and Neptune): each movement is intended to convey ideas and emotions associated with the influence of the planets on the psyche, not the Roman deities."
PROGRAM:
GUSTAV HOLST: A Fugal Overture, Op. 40, No. 1
TBD: Harp Concerto TBD
GUSTAV HOLST: The Planets, Op. 32
Still want more? We also have a wonderful pre-concert talk given by Bob Buckalew at 7:10 pm. Take a photo in front of our photo wall. Feeling a little peckish?
